Currently a hot trend in tuxedo wear, this style creates a striking silhouette with coat lengths ranging from mid thigh to knee skimming, and usually looks best with a long tie and a full front vest. While regular tuxedos usually have one to four buttons, the long coats may have as many as 10. Some coats have very classic styling with peak, notch or shawl lapels, but the style also lends itself to contemporary flair. Men who are not afraid to break with traditional features often prefer the mandarin style tuxedo that has a high, rounded collar instead of the standard oblong or deep V opening with lapels. Also called a Nehru jacket, these coats may come with a single row of buttons that can be partially or completely fastened, or they may be button free, in which case they look good with a vest.

Technically not a tuxedo, the Zoot Suit is still formal and has come a long way from the super baggy, outrageously long coats of the 1930 and 1940 when the look was often associated with gangsters. The Zoot Suit of today is finely cut and should appear to be custom made for the man wearing it. Coats have peaked or notched medium width lapels and are worn with a vest and long tie. In the past, coat lengths have landed as far down as mid calf, but most are now about 36 inches long and fall around the middle of the thigh. While funky prints and bold colors are available, classic colors and stripes are the choice of many men preferring this urban look. As in the past, its finishing touch is a wool, wide brimmed hat like a fedora or a feather accented Homburg, also known as a godfather.
