I’m talking about planned pregnancy and knowing that money will be very tight if you do get pg w/another child and that none of the children you have will be able to have the things they could have had w/fewer siblings. If I can comfortably pay for a quality education for my existing child(ren), but know that if I add another sibling it will make money tight enough for no extras for anyone and hand me downs only for the little one. Is it wrong/irresponsible to have another child just because the parents want to? Would you do it?

I think that if you can afford all the basics for another child without depending on others, it is not irresponsible to plan more kids. By basics I mean food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare. Education could be added as well because even with free public school there are still expenses that come up.

I wouldn’t do it because I want more than the basics for my kids. I’d like to provide them with experiences and, yes, things I never had growing up. That’s a big part of why I’m done at two kids.

ETA I don’t consider having to use hand me downs as a bad thing and I don’t think because someone uses hand me downs or thrift store clothing they were irresponsible to have more kids. Hell, I can afford name brand clothes for my kids but still shop at thrift stores.
