Racing video games come in all shapes and sizes. There are simulations, arcade, open world, and closed track racers for you to enjoy.
This year alone has seen about 10 racing games hit the market with a bit of uniqueness to each. Then there is Need for Speed: The Run, which released last week on all the major gaming consoles. This is a review of the Xbox 360 version. The game is developed by Black Box Studios and published by Electronic Arts.
The premise of the game is interesting. You play as Jack Rourke, a man who is heavily indebted to the Mob but whose saving grace is his ability to drive fast. Real fast. So instead of facing certain death, Jack is offered a way out by an old friend. If he wins a chaotic cross country race, his debt will be absolved. What follows is a 2,000 plus mile road trip from San Francisco to New York in a racing game that is a mixed bag of great and disappointment.
