I am sending my kids to public school (we have homeschooled for the last 3 years). School starts in 2 months. I am trying to work out a budget, but I am not sure how many outfits each child should have. I will have 3 going to school (1 will be in 1/2 day kinder). I don’t want to over do it spend more than we will need and have more laundry to do, but I don’t want to not get enough.
Here is what I do. We have been unemployed and so I had to budget well and only spent 400 for the whole school year on supplies clothes and shoes for two. got them each about 4 5 pairs of jeans and shorts/shorts with about 10 switch out shirts. Then I let them pick out one outfit for the first day of school . Then socks,

I also schooled more of the late winter spring clothes for them by families who have outgrown it all. I got my son who is 2 in 3T colthing brand new name brand stuff for free with the mom saying she overshoppped because of her discount there and the kid outgrew stuff. I was so happy. I use to do 10 outfits per child but then I got rid of my shopping addiction. Last year we went through the closests and hand me downs first and pulled out everything that looked brand new and that was set aside for school use while everything else was for play. I give each kid a $100 budget (not really them but me) and we see what else we can get. At christmas and birthday they get a nice outfit as well. If they out grow during the year I replace as needed but I really try to push the use of clothes for as long as I can. My kindergartener had some high waters for a bit but he didn’t care.
This year I will allow a bit more spending for my fifth grader because well,
Discount Magenta Con Negro, she’s a tween now.
3 4 pairs of jeans/khaki pants should be sufficient,

New Release Nike Free Run Tiffany Blue 3.5, while they only need sneakers, tend to have clothing that lends itself to more of a maryjane/ballet flat type of shoe so a pair of those in addition to the sneakers is nice if you can swing it. never homeschooled but I cannot say that I’ve noticed a different ‘need’ clotheswise between my kids that aren’t in school yet vs.
My school aged kids will be entering grades 8,

My parents always gave us a budget of $100. Once we got a little older,

My kids get 1 new outfit going to school. The rest are hand me downs. If they need something otherwise we go get it. This year my dd13 needs all new clothes since she wears 14 and I gave most away (4 yrs between her older sister). So we will buy here and there so she can have enough to wear. My son 8 is 8 yrs younger than his brother. So I had to pick up extras here and there. I got him 6 prs of jeans this year and all are ruined. Huge holes in knees. I am hemming them into shorts. For younger kids you can usually go to Walmart or somewhere that has cheap clothing since they’ll outgrow and outwear the clothes part way through the school year anyways! I have friends that have larger budgets and drop their (older) kids off at the mall with debit cards in hand but I personally would never do that because I don’t have a budget that allows $500 per child! I also have other friends that can only do $100 or $150 per child and they make that work. Don’t break your bank account trying to clothe them; work within whatever your budget is. I’ve always found that 5 outfits is kind of a minimum; a clean outfit for each day of the week for in case you don’t get a chance to get your laundry done until the weekend! And you’ll definately need 2 pairs of shoes,
