The Rosary Lakes, just east of the crest of the Cascades, are what they sound like: a succession of three emerald lakes strung close together in deep forest. The most difficult part of the hike is the initial 2.7 miles to the first lake; it’s not steep, just not terribly interesting. Keep eyes peeled for glimpses of Odell Lake through the trees to the south. If kids are old enough to handle a hike this long, they’ll be glad they did: the closely set lakes are fun for brisk dips and even trout fishing. Carry river shoes to wear into the muddy lakes.
